# Balances and settlement

> Where your money is, and when it becomes yours to use.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://onepay-api-eiy9.onrender.com/v1/balances \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ONEPAY_KEY"
```

```json theme={null}
{
  "data": [
    { "currency": "XAF", "available": 9700, "pending": 0, "reserved": 0 }
  ],
  "mode": "test"
}
```

| Balance | What it is |
| - | - |
| `pending` | Collected, waiting for the partner's records to confirm it |
| `available` | Yours to pay out or withdraw now |
| `reserved` | Set aside for payouts on their way; returns if one fails |

## From payin to available

1. A payin **succeeds**: its `net_amount` (amount minus fee) is added to
   `pending`, and you receive `payin.succeeded`.
2. One Pay matches it against the partner's own records. Once confirmed,
   it moves to `available`, the payin gets its `settled_at`, and you
   receive `payin.settled`. This usually takes minutes.
3. In test mode, step 2 happens at once.

## Where the money is held

During the pilot, the money sits with One Pay's licensed payment partners,
not in a One Pay bank account. Your balance is One Pay's record of what is
yours, kept in a double-entry ledger that is sealed every minute so that
no record can be changed unnoticed.
